Factsheet ‘Strengthening the specialist judicial system to prevent violence against women’

Violence against women (VAW) is the most widespread human rights violation and is a complex and systemic problem. In Peru, around 70% of women have experienced violence at the hands of their partner (ENARES -INEI, 2019). In 2018, Peru’s national specialized justice system to protect and punish violence against women and family members (SNEJ) was founded. Its goal is to strengthen the legal frameworks for protection and punishing VAW and to improve response times and support for victims.
