Human Rights Compliant Data Collection: How State Organisations and Civil Society Can Collect and Use Data on the Rights and Living Situation of LGBTIQ+ Persons

The United Nations 2030 Agenda, the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and feminist foreign and development policy actors emphasise the importance of collecting data in accordance with human rights for the inclusion of and combating discrimination against LGBTIQ+ persons and other disadvantaged groups. Nevertheless, there are still deficits in the collection of data on LGBTIQ+ persons in many countries. This stems from the legal situation and cultural circumstances in the countries, among other things, but are also due to gaps in knowledge or a lack of funding. The pilot measure of the Sectoral Programme Human Rights and the PreViMujer project in Ecuador therefore aimed to collect data on gender-based discrimination and violence against LGBTIQ+ persons in accordance with human rights, with the involvement of state actors and LGBTIQ+ civil society.
