The digital catalog: A chronicle of preventing and combating violence against women

Preventing violence against women and changing sociocultural patterns that normalize and legitimize it is a collective mission. Within these digital pages, you'll uncover a tapestry woven with dedication, resilience, and the unyielding commitment to combat violence against women – a human rights violation that affects not only Latin America but the entire world.

Violence against women is unfortunately still widespread in the Andean region countries and Paraguay. It's estimated that up to 70% of women in these places have experienced gender-based violence. However, all the countries have signed significant international agreements and passed protection laws and action plans at the national level to combat gender-based violence.

Despite these advances, violence against women remains a serious public health problem that impacts women, their households, businesses, private companies, and the States. This has very serious social and economic consequences for societies and countries as a whole, and for the development of their citizens.

This digital catalog collects materials, particularly from Bolivia, Ecuador, Paraguay, and Peru, committed to changing this status quo.

The regional programme ComVoMujer (Combatir la violencia contra las mujeres) – Combating violence against women in Latin America – 2009 to 2018, as well as the bilateral programmes PreViMujer Ecuador (Prevenir la violencia contra las Mujeres) – Prevention of violence against women - 2018 to 2024, PreVio Bolivia (Prevenir la violencia contra las Mujeres) – Prevention of violence against women – 2020 to 2022, and ForSneJ Peru (Fortalecimiento del sistema de justicia especializado contra la violencia hacia la mujer) – Strengthening of the specialized justice system for violence against women - 2021 to 2024 of the German Cooperation implemented by GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) are working to prevent and eradicate violence against women. Together with diverse actors from the public, private, and civil society sectors, universities, and media organizations, these programs are shaping a new reality.

This catalog contains a collection of studies, training programs, campaigns, events, media movements, and more created since 2009 aimed at shaking the foundations of ingrained societal norms that legitimize violence against women and gender inequalities.

As you navigate through these pages, may you find good practices of technical assistance and cooperation with different actors of society to strengthen their contribution to effective prevention, as well as inspiration, insight, and maybe a renewed sense of purpose to foster change. Together, we can amplify our voices, uplift communities, and work towards a world where violence against women is an echo of the past.
